Project Aid would like to invite your organization to participate Project Management Training course specifically tailored for Australian NGO’s and the humanitarian sector projects. 

 

This training course and supporting material is provided on a not for profit basis to approved NGO’s and the relief organisations. 

 

The course is designed to be useful for attendees focused on post disaster, community and international development projects.

 

Project Aid Training Course Introduction.

 

Project Aid has developed a One-Day training course for organization in the NGO or humanitarian sector organisations.

 

This training courses leverages best-practice project management methodology, which is endorsed by Project Management International (PMI, Australia) http://www.pmi.org

 

Project Aid is a not for profit venture initiated by members of Australia's two leading project management bodies (PMI and AIPM). The core mission of Project Aid is: “Bringing effective project management to humanitarian and community projects”.

 

 

What is the training package? 

  • One Day Training Course conducted by PM Professionals covering 4 core project management modules.
  • A case scenario is undertaken to allow participants to immediately begin applying Project Management methods to a real life situation
  • Training uses sample tools and templates based on a case study
  • Participants are provided course materials

What are the Course Materials?

Who should attend?   

 

The training program is for individuals:

 

  • with no (or minimal) prior Project Management experience
  • working in the humanitarian and relief sector, and/or
  • Interested in volunteer placements.

 

It is recommended that participants are currently working in the (NGO) Non Government Organisation, Not for Profit or humanitarian organizations.

 

Participants engaged in the management of projects or programs in this sector will benefit from the course. This could include (but not limited to)

 

  • Any resource involved in projects.
  • Relief Sector Volunteers
  • Field Workers.
  • Project Manager
  • Program Managers.
  • Country Managers
  • Resources involved in Risk Management.
  • Finance Managers
  • Senior Managers.

 

What is the aim of the training?

 

The Project Aid training program aims to show individuals, with no significant prior training in Project Management, how to confidently apply the basics of the Project Management Methodology for Post Disaster Reconstruction to ‘simple’ projects in ‘real life’.

 

A simple project is defined as having up to:

  • 10 staff
  • 3 suppliers
  • 2 scope changes.

 

The Learning objectives

 

On completion of this training, participants should be able to:

 

  • Outline the PM process.
  • Define commonly used terms.
  • Use Project Management templates.

 

Apply the basics of the Project Management Methodology for Post Disaster Reconstruction to a ‘simple’ project, as follows:

 

  • Initiating
  • Planning
  • Monitoring and Controlling
  • Executing, and
  • Closing.

 

How is the training course facilitated?

 

The training is:

 

  • facilitator-led
  • from 6 -12 people, and
  • activity based for small groups (3).

 

What is the training duration?

 

6.5 hours training in an 8 hour day (plus 30 minute Registration period)

What are the training options?  

 

The training course format is as follows

 

  • 1 day Public Course involving individuals from NGO or Relief Sector on selected dates.

 

  • By prior arrangement, 1 Day Large group Course (6-12+ individuals) for one organization by arrangement.

 

Project Aid will arrange the training venue including presentation equipment and course material or the training can be onsite conducted at your venue.

 

The course can be taught interstate. However travel and basic expenses need to be met by participating organization.

 

What is the Case study?

 

The Project Management training course uses a case scenario involving the rebuild of a demolished schoolhouse on the island of Luzon in the Philippines.

 

This case scenario describes typhoons Muifa and Yoyong which cause death, landslides, and flooding in Luzon. Philippines. Subsequently Typhoon Nanmadol made landfall late December 2, 2004 along the northeast coast with sustained winds of up to 185 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 220 kilometers per hour, slicing through the main island of Luzon the morning of December 3.

 

Following these events, the case scenario tackles the project to rebuild the demolished schoolhouse on the island of Luzon.

 

Using this case scenario training approach. Participants can

 

  • Immediately begin applying Project Management methods to a real life situation.
  • Use sample project tools and templates based on scenario data

The principles learnt during the training can be applied to post disaster, community and international development projects scenarios.

  

What is the cost?

 

After 30 July 2010, a fee of $150.00 per person is charged to covers training materials and lunch.

 

  • Lunch and Refreshments are provided.
  • The venue and facilities will be provided by Project Aid in Melbourne or at an alternative venue by prior arrangement.
  • The course is delivered by Project Aid training professionals. 
  • The Project Notebook and Methodology CD is provided free of charge.

 

In the event of financial hardship, Project Aid will cover the cost of the course to approved applicants.

Following Course Registration, Payment for the training course is required before the event.
